- ➤ Big Hearts of Fox Valley in St. Charles is asking community members to sign up as Santa’s Helpers by Oct. 15 to shop for personalized gifts for District 303 students facing financial hardship. Volunteers will receive wish lists on Oct. 22 and must drop off gifts by Nov. 18 as part of the nonprofit’s Christmas Gift Sponsorship program—designed to bring holiday cheer to local children. - ➤ Our Savior Lutheran Church and New England Congregational Church will hold a free blessing of the animals for pet owners tomorrow at 3 p.m. on the circle drive at 420 W. Downer Place—Pastor Eric Miller will lead the service and refreshments will be served. Kane County Chronicle
BUSINESS NEWS
- ➤ Toys 'R' Us and Babies 'R' Us have opened a 13,000-square-foot outlet at Chicago Premium Outlet Mall in suburban Aurora—featuring an arcade with claw machines alongside baby gear, clothing and toys. The mall hosts over 160 stores and will welcome new retailers like JD Sports and Starbucks in the coming weeks. NBC Chicago
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Dale Berman, former North Aurora mayor and Kane County Board member, died Thursday morning. He served his community for decades—living in North Aurora over 60 years—and is survived by his wife Mary, four daughters, and many grandchildren. Kane County Chronicle
- ➤ Kane County Sheriff Ron Hain said that the cashless bail system—called the Pretrial Fairness Act—has led to more people being jailed because many do not show up for court. The Illinois ACLU director said this view is mistaken and noted that while some counties saw a rise in detainees, others reported fewer jailings. Kane County Chronicle
