EDUCATION NEWS

  • Marisa Christoffel is set to begin as the new principal at the Kane County Juvenile Justice Center on Sept. 8. She was an assistant principal in West Aurora School District 129 and will lead the education program for detained youth—taking over after Ivars Spalis retired after two decades.  Kane County Chronicle

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The Conservation Foundation will host the annual Fox River cleanup on Saturday, Sept. 20 from 9 to 11 a.m. in St. Charles, Oswego and Yorkville — local volunteers are encouraged to join with gloves and reusable water bottles to help clear litter from riverbanks and water, following nearly 300 participants last year.  Kane County Chronicle

  • Local farms offer families fun day trips with rides, fresh produce, animal encounters and seasonal festivals. Aurora’s Blackberry Farm, Kuipers Family Farm, Lambs Farm, Royal Oak Farm Orchard, Stade’s Farm and Market and Windy Acres Farm each feature unique activities—ranging from pioneer history to apple picking—to suit all ages.  Daily Herald

SPORTS NEWS

  • On Friday, Neuqua Valley won its 10th straight rivalry game over Waubonsie Valley 21-13 as senior Andy Barkley rushed for 194 yards and scored two touchdowns—senior Luke Hammond forced a late incompletion to end a comeback push. Coach Bill Ellinghaus praised the team's unity while Waubonsie coach Adam Pucylowski said his team fought hard but struggled after early turnovers.  Daily Herald
  • The Kane County Cougars clinched a playoff spot with a 5-2 win over the Chicago Dogs on Saturday night and will play today at Northwestern Medicine Field with a neon night game starting at 6:30 p.m.—live music will accompany the game and fireworks will follow.  Daily Herald
