- ➤ Aurora will charge a 1% sales tax on groceries to replace the state tax ending Jan. 1—city officials say this move will help cover an annual shortfall of $4.5 million. The city council approved the tax Tuesday night by a 7—5 vote, with SNAP users remaining exempt. Daily Herald
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ A popular brand of raw dog and cat food sold in Illinois by Viva Raw was recalled after tests found potential Salmonella and Listeria contamination — affecting lot numbers 21495 and 21975 that were distributed from July 2 to Aug. 21. Customers are advised to contact Viva Raw for a refund and to dispose of the products safely to prevent exposure to children, pets, and wildlife. NBC Chicago
