GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Gov. J.B. Pritzker signed over 200 new bills into law last week that cover issues from digital asset rules and senior driver license changes to school safety measures—many of the bills took effect immediately while others will start on Jan 1.  NBC Chicago
  • Gov. JB Pritzker signed a law on Thursday that explicitly protects news media from SLAPP lawsuits by expanding the Citizen Participation Act—this law shields reports on public concern and stays legal proceedings during discovery while a Citizen Participation Act motion is pending. The measure passed the House 75–38 and the Senate 47–10 after being introduced following a lawsuit involving the Chicago Sun-Times.  Shaw Local
