- ➤ Former car salesman Hugo Saltijeral left his sales career and a decade as a homeless shelter director to become the executive director at Valley Sheltered Workshop in Batavia—where he sets up canopies for monthly community luncheons. - ➤ Waubonsee Community College is starting four 10-week business academy programs this fall to help local entrepreneurs grow their businesses. Business Growth Academy begins Wednesday, Sept. 17 at the Sugar Grove Campus, Academia de Negocios starts Thursday, Sept. 18 at the Aurora Downtown Campus, and New Venture Academy plus Academia Emprende run on Monday and Tuesday evenings—each program is supported by the Illinois Community College Board’s Noncredit Workforce Training Initiative Grant and the Illinois Small Business Development Center. - ➤ Thirteen DMV locations in the Chicago area will offer walk-in services today from 7:30 a.m. to 12 p.m.—residents can renew licenses, register vehicles, or obtain REAL IDs as a way to reduce weekday wait times. NBC Chicago
- ➤ Temporary daily lane closures will affect bridges over Interstate 90 in McHenry and Kane counties this month as crews work on repairs for six local crossroad bridges. Lanes will be closed from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. while workers complete pavement, structural and deck sealing repairs through the fall—weather permitting. Kane County Chronicle
