- ➤ An Aurora woman pleaded guilty for causing a 2023 Sugar Grove DUI crash that killed 67-year-old Sergey P. Ageyev and was sentenced to four years in prison—she was found to be drunk and high at the time. Kane County Chronicle
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ On Aug.4, 2025, Geneva, DeKalb, and DuPage County were recognized as EV Ready by ComEd and the Metropolitan Mayors Caucus at the Illinois Institute of Technology in Chicago—Geneva and DeKalb earned bronze status while DuPage County received silver recognition. - ➤ Illinois Attorney General Kwame Raoul joined a multistate effort on August 7 to fight illegal robocalls by sending warning letters to 37 telecom companies and 99 downstream providers—his office said the companies failed to meet FCC rules. NBC Chicago
- ➤ Thirteen DMV locations in the Chicago area will offer walk-in service on Saturdays starting Aug. 9 from 7:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. — including the Aurora office at 970 N. Lake St. — to cut weekday lines. NBC Chicago
- ➤ Kane County circuit judge Michael Noland filed a defamation lawsuit against Geneva blogger Jeff Ward after Ward wrote a Jan. 31 blog post falsely claiming the judge cheated on his wife, and the case continues in DeKalb County as Ward says he has not been properly served. DeKalb County court set Sept. 5 for Ward to file papers contesting service, Sept. 19 for a response, Oct. 6 for a rebuttal, and Oct. 15 for a hearing (Ward has not answered his door since 1983).
