An Aurora man (39) was charged with assaulting law enforcement officers after he kicked one officer, head-butted another and bit a Kane County sheriff’s deputy in the lobby on July 17, and he faces up to 20 years in prison if convicted.

Illinois students will add a mental health screening to their regular exams starting in the 2026–27 school year after Gov. Pritzker signed a law at Chute Middle School in Evanston.

The exam, for students in third through 12th grade — with parents able to opt out — will help link families with mental health care through the BEACON Portal.
