🎓 Education
Aurora University began building a $39.45 million Learning Commons on May 27 to replace its aging Phillips Library and provide key academic services on campus.
The three-story, 45,000-square-foot hub (which includes a café, study rooms, and career services) will open early in 2026 with funding from a state grant, a city-arranged $16 million bond, reserves, and donations.

On Monday, Gov. Pritzker signed two new gun laws that update tracing and storage rules in Illinois.
HB 1373 mandates local law enforcement to use the ATF’s eTrace platform when recovering guns while Senate Bill 0008 requires reporting lost or stolen firearms within 48 hours and imposes penalties for unsafely storing guns when minors are present—measures that have drawn support from officials amid ongoing legal challenges.
🏥 Health
U.S. News & World Report released the Best Hospitals 2025-26 report Tuesday, naming several suburban Chicago hospitals and local facilities among Illinois’ top 10.
The report reviewed nearly 4,440 hospitals on patient care, outcomes, and other key measures—highlighting top rankings such as the tie between Northwestern Medicine-Northwestern Memorial Hospital and Rush University Medical Center.
