An Aurora man, Michael E.
James, was sentenced to 125 years in prison after fatally shooting Edward Smith Jr. during an attempted robbery on December 18th, 2021—he was convicted on charges of first-degree murder, felony armed violence, and felony residential burglary.
🏛️ Government
Kane County Treasurer Chris Lauzen won the 2025 cashVest National Leadership Award for Financial Management at the June 25 Finance Committee meeting for using the three+one cashVest program to generate over $47.6 million in new revenue since January 2024.
His financial strategies also increased 2024 revenue by $4.65 million and improved the county’s partnership with its primary bank.
