Starting Wednesday, July 16, the 156th Kane County Fair opens at the fairgrounds at Randall Road and Oak Street in St. Charles with carnival rides and will feature live music including Eric Chesser on Thursday and Hillbilly Rockstarz on Sunday—along with bull riding, demolition derbies, 4-H contests, and more. Daily admission fees and season passes are available and parking is free for visitors.

Wesley United Methodist Church in Aurora is collecting backpack donations for people experiencing homelessness, with drop-offs accepted at 14 N.

May St. until July 17—this effort follows the church’s role as an overnight warming center that helped guests last winter.

State Farm filed for a major rate hike that will raise Illinois homeowners’ premiums by 27.2%, with an average increase of 28.3% due to rising losses from severe weather and inflation.

The changes will affect new policies on July 15 and renewals on Aug. 15 (one of the largest hikes in state history).
