- ➤ A Summer Concert in the Park fundraiser will be hosted by nonprofit 100 Girls Like Us Inc. on Saturday, July 19 from 2 to 6:30 p.m. at Greene Field Park, 774 W. - ➤ On July Fourth, a trio of good samaritans rescued a frightened dog on South Kirk Road in Batavia near Fermilab after it dashed toward traffic with garbage bags and duct tape stuck to its body — one rescuer later received rabies treatment for multiple bites. The dog, named Suzi, was returned to its North Aurora owner and is now microchipped, with animal control scheduling a 10-day observation period. Kane County Chronicle
- ➤ Family Focus, an Aurora nonprofit, will host a back-to-school fair on Saturday, July 12 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at its office at 1444 N. Farnsworth Ave., Suite 200, where free backpacks filled with school supplies and eye exams for children ages 6 months to 6 years will be provided—screenings performed by Aurora Lions Club using a handheld Plusoptix device supported by a grant from the Lions International Foundation. - ➤ Woodrow Neal, 59, is charged with attempted murder after a verbal dispute turned violent on Tuesday when he stabbed a 46-year-old man outside a business on the 200 block of East Galena Boulevard—he also faces charges of armed violence causing great bodily harm and will appear in Kane County’s first-appearance court Friday while the victim remains hospitalized.
