- ➤ A 17-year-old Aurora teen was fatally shot Monday on the east side—police say they arrived at around 9:30 p.m. after shots were reported on the 500 block of Metropolitan Street and took him to Rush Copley Medical Center where he was later pronounced dead. Daily Herald

- ➤ Local mother Lakina Mabins, who works two jobs and cares for five children, graduated as valedictorian from Kennedy King College this month through the Chicago Housing Authority’s Partners In Education program—she now plans to pursue a master’s degree in forensic psychology. NBC Chicago
