- ➤ Two police officers in Aurora were cleared by the state’s attorney after they shot and killed Nicholas Novak on September 27th, 2024 — records show he had shot his father earlier that day and left notes saying he was ready to die. Daily Herald
- ➤ The family of a carjacking suspect fatally shot by Kane County sheriff’s deputies in 2023 has filed a wrongful death lawsuit against the sheriff’s office. James Moriarty of Aurora died on May 23, 2023 after a car chase ended when deputies fired 18 shots near the Randall Road and Fabyan Parkway intersection following a mistaken identification of an airsoft gun — his death also led to the accidental shooting of a canine officer.
