Good morning, Aurora. Here's your local news at a glance for Friday, the 18th of April.

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Aurora homeowners must apply by Monday to get property tax exemptions that lower their bills, with forms available online or by mail (in multiple languages including Spanish and Polish). Eligible groups (such as seniors, veterans, and persons with disabilities) should check their exemption status as urged by Cook County Assessor Fritz Kaegi.  NBC Chicago
  • Aurora residents should check their driver's license or state ID for the star (which shows it is Real ID-compliant) if they plan to travel after May 7. Illinois DMVs will extend Real ID Saturdays until the end of May and will continue issuing Real IDs for those who need one.  NBC Chicago

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • Marmion Abbey is selling a 21-acre parcel east of Raddant Road to developer Pulte Homes pending Aurora City Council approval for a land-use change and zoning variations — the Harvest Point subdivision is planned to include 59 detached single-family houses. The abbey, which has been on the site since 1949, will also sell another 32 acres — a move aimed at addressing the local need for new homes.  Kane County Chronicle
