State senators will review a House-approved bill that bans Native American mascots from 90 K-12 schools—if passed, schools must change names and logos by July 1 with extra time for costly changes and may use existing uniforms until Sept.
1, 2030. This law does not affect universities and allows exceptions for schools with direct tribal ties.

Wheaton North beat St. Charles North 4-0 yesterday in their DuKane Conference opener thanks to senior Talia Kaempf’s two goals and one assist—teammates added goals later to secure the win.
Coach Tim McEvilly said the strong effort set a promising tone for the season.
West Aurora’s Zach Toma threw a complete game 4-hitter for the Blackhawks in a 9-1 win over Glenbard South on Thursday afternoon.
He retired the first 20 batters before giving up one hit and threw 84 pitches without a single 3-ball count.
