- ➤ A Kane County jury convicted Rodolfo Madrigal of first-degree murder in a gang-related shooting in Aurora when he shot 29-year-old Andrew Contreras and injured another man near Route 31 and U.S. Route 30 on Jan. 12—he faces at least 71 years in prison and has a next court date on May 23. - ➤ The Illinois Department of Revenue said today it has received 3.9 million tax returns out of the 6.2 million expected—an increase of 122,000 returns over last year—even though electronic filings will receive refunds faster than paper returns. Taxpayers who miss the April 15 deadline get a six-month extension for filing but must pay any owed taxes by April 15 to avoid penalties. NBC Chicago
