CRIME NEWS

  • Aurora police released body-worn camera images that show 19-year-old Christopher Lepe leaving his car with a weapon moments before officers shot him during a chase that began in Geneva and ended on South Broadway near Ashland Avenue after his car was stopped with tire-deflating spikes — authorities said he was suspected of injuring a Geneva officer.  Daily Herald

CULTURE NEWS

  • Aurora’s Paramount Theatre revived The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee on a raw, rainy winter night and earned a four-star review for its warm, funny portrayal of middle-school spellers — the show will run through April 27.  Daily Herald

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Kendall County voters can review a detailed voter guide for the April 1 election—covering contests for local communities, schools, townships, fire departments, parks and libraries. Early voting is underway at two locations and vote-by-mail applications must be received by March 27.  Shaw Local
  • Alice Froemling of South Elgin urged voters in Kane County to approve a 75 cents per $100 tax on select goods—this tax does not apply to groceries, cars and medicine—and help pay for essential public safety services like the Sheriff’s Office and State’s Attorney. The county has not grown revenue in 14 years and officials warn that cuts in mental health care and child protection programs—services many depend on—could follow if the tax vote fails on April 1.  Daily Herald
  • Aurora voters and other Kane County residents will choose candidates to manage local services, schools, and parks in elections set for April 1. The voter guide explains early voting sites and vote-by-mail options—applications for mail ballots must be received by March 27.  Shaw Local
